Review For The 80's Rewind Party
Rick Astley and Boy George headline 80's Rewind party
From The Hull Daily Mail
It was an entertaining evening of nostalgia for the audience at Scarborough Open Air Theatre last Saturday.
The newly restored venue played host to a colourful 1980s party, which transported us all back to a time of leg warmers, shoulder pads and big, big hair.
First on the bill was Hazel O'Connor, followed by Toyah, T'Pau, Kid Creole, Heaven 17 and Paul Young. Highlights of the evening were Nik Kershaw's I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Midge Ure's Vienna, which had everyone singing along.
But, for me, it was Rick Astley who stole the show, performing a set of five songs, including his huge hit Never Gonna Give You Up, and sounding in fine voice. Admittedly, I have been a fan since I was eight, but the rest of the crowd, who were by this time dancing in the aisles, certainly seemed to agree.
Boy George brought the evening to a close with some of his best-known songs, including Church Of The Poison Mind, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, Everything I Own, Karma Chameleon and Bow Down Mister, before a fantastic firework finale signalled the end of the party.
I, for one, came away thinking, "what a great night, with a great atmosphere, in such lovely surroundings and with a fantastic line-up".
I will certainly be keeping an eye on forthcoming events at Scarborough's Open Air Theatre.
